Goodbye, Atom

June 26th, 2022

On June 8th, Github announced the discontinuation of the Atom text editor. I have mixed emotions - Atom has been my primary text editor since 2016, but at the same time I knew this was coming.

What now?

As of June 26th, I'm currently deciding on a replacement text editor. I've tried several different editors, but so far my favorites are Sublime Text, Neovim, VSCode. Atom's founder, National Sobo, has also announced that he's building the "spiritual successor" to Atom, titled Zed. I'm hype to try it :D

I'd love a good blend between customizability and multi-platform compatbility. I use a windows box for gaming and a thinkpad running arch for work - ideally, I'll have my preferred text editor with all my configurations on both systems.
